THE ZVORNIK LAKE

The Zvornik Lake is formed by building hydroelectric power plant “Zvornik” on the river Drina in 1955. The lake is 25 km long, comprising an area of 1300 hectares. It is 200 m long at its narrowest section, and at its widest part it reaches 3 km. The maximum measured depth of the lake is 39 meters, and its average depth is 5-8 meters.

The lake, rich in fish, has provided a lot of trophy specimens, such as: a wels catfish of 87 kilos, a pike of 18.5 kilos, a zander of 13.7 kilos, a huchen of 18 kilos, a  common carp of 19 kilos, a grass carp of 22 kilos, a bream of 7 kilos, a chub of 3.5 kilos, a Danube bleak of 7 kilos, etc.

These are the biggest fish caught in the Zvornik Lake. According to the divers the Zvornik Lake, with its green waters, conceals specimens of sheatfish weighing more than 100 kilos.

The sport fishing festival “Somovijada” is held every July on the Zvornik Lake. Equally interesting and exciting is fishing in the river Drina downstream of hydroelctric power plant «Zvornik».

The Zvornik Lake offers innumerable opportunites for sport, recreation, fun and pleasure, from fishing and swimming to cayak competitions and many other water sports.
